It has been nothing less of a nightmare for all those who have been commuting in and out of the city across the Lyallpur Khalsa level crossing for the past few days. Owing to moderate showers, which have lashed the city during the past couple of days, huge potholes dot the service lanes created along the under-construction railway over-bridge at the site.

In a glaring example of the apathetic attitude of government departments towards completing works, the railways has failed to widen the Ladowali road crossing located near the district administrative complex (DAC) after so many years.

Forum pulls up rlys for harassing senior citizens
Jalandhar, August 5
The refusal of the railways authorities to change the boarding station of two senior citizens has cost them dear. The district consumer disputes redressal forum has ordered the chairman of the railways board, chief reservation supervisor, Guwahati, and station superintendent there to pay a compensation of Rs 50,000 and Rs 3,000 as cost of litigation to the two passengers.

Damage has been caused to vegetable production in Punjab owing to heavy rains which lashed the state over the past couple of days. “Because of the torrential rains that occurred yesterday, the vegetable crop in several areas in the state has been hit and we fear the damage could go up to the extent of 20 to 25 per cent,” Punjab horticulture department director Baldev Singh said on Tuesday.

Dera chief’s action
KAC proposes all-religion convention
Jalandhar, August 5
Amid an offer of negotiation extended by the Dera Sacha Sauda chief, the Khalsa Action Committee is going to organise a convention of leaders from all religions to apprise them of the activities of the dera against their religions. “It’s surprising that although dera chief Gurmit Ram Rahim has indulged in activities against all religions, there was no protest from other religious leaders,” KAC convener Mokham Singh said.

Giving a boost to women football at the grassroots level, the Punjab Women Football Association is presently holding a 15-day sub-junior (u-17) training camp at Trinity College here. The budding women football players are preparing for the upcoming sub-junior national championship to be held at Haldwani in Uttaranchal.
