SHO commits ‘suicide’, wife booked
Mohali, August 4
An inspector of the Punjab police, who was presently working with the Punjab Vigilance Bureau, allegedly committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance. The police has booked his wife and in-laws in this regard.

Rajpura loses 18 in stampede
Rajpura, August 4
As many as 18 pilgrims, killed in Naina Devi Temple at Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh, were from Rajpura subdivision . Seven members of a Rajpura family were also killed in the incident.

Nazim Ahmed, a 30-year-old small-time entrepreneur, is a man on a green mission. Sparing a thought for the environment preservation, Nazim embarked on a unique one-year mission to plant 25,000 saplings in the neighbouring states of Punjab and Haryana.

New parking norms for city

Under the revised bylaws, the administration has made the new parking norms for the city with effect from July 21, the date the bylaws were approved by the administrator, Gen SF Rodrigues (retd).

ISBT-43 contractor overcharging

Even as the CTU authorities had slapped a fine of Rs 25,000 on the parking contractor at the ISBT, Sector 43 a month back for overcharging, it seems that contractors there have not learnt the lesson from the incident.

Investigations into the sensational murder of “gangster” Prabhjinder Singh Dimpy seem to have hit a roadblock once again. Officials probing the case have reportedly failed to extract any vital clues from the prime suspect, Jaswinder Singh Bhullar alias Rocky, even after six days of police remand.

9-yr-old goes missing from Mansa Devi temple

A 9-year-old child has gone missing from a slum at Mansa Devi Complex. The father of the child, Ghanshyam Dass, a resident of Gandhi Colony, has lodged a complaint with the police that his daughter Santosh went missing when she had left her home to have langar at Mata Mansa Devi temple on July 20. She did not return till today, said Ghanshyam.

HCS officer Samwarthak Singh will be the new DPI (S) as the Chandigarh administration has repatriated DPI (S) S.K. Setia to his parent state Haryana. Setia, who will be relieved tomorrow, joined the UT education department on April 3, 2007. Setia had applied for his repatriation last month. On deputation, Setia worked in the Chandigarh Housing Board, technical education department and estate office.
