Civil surgeon takes over: Dr Avtar Singh took over as civil surgeon of Mohali district here today. He succeeded Dr P.K. Mittal who retired yesterday. Earlier, Dr Avtar Singh was zonal malaria officer, Jalandhar. He met all programme officers and other staff members and also took account of the ongoing work in the district.

Burning incident: The police has arrested husband, his elder brother and mother in connection with the burning incident of a 24-year-old married woman Swarna Devi, which occurred at Behru village in Bhattiyat subdivision of Chamba district on Wednesday. Tyres stolen: A gang of thieves stole tyres of four private vehicles parked near the houses of their owners on Wednesday night. According to the information, the gang decamped with the tyres of Maruti cars (HP 38- 3583) and (DL CC- 3516). Speaker to leave for
Kuala Lumpur: Speaker Tulsi Ram will leave for Kuala Lumpur on Saturday to attend the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association's Conference. He will also visit New Zealand and Australia after the conference.
He will reach Kuala Lumpur on August 4 and during his weeklong stay deliver a lecture on "Parliament and Civil Society Engagement for Better Policy Making." Tulsi Ram will leave will tour New Zealand from August 11 to 13 and Austrlia from August 14 to 16 and return to New Delhi on August 20.

Army holds medical camp: The Army on Friday organised a medical camp under Operation Sadbhavna at Surinsar village and provided free of cost medical facilities to the people. The camp was organised by the 194 Medium Regiment and inaugurated by Major-Gen D.L. Choudhary, GOC, Tiger Division. The function was attended by military and civil dignitaries besides, ex-servicemen and civilians from the adjoining villages. BSF jawan injured: A BSF jawan was injured in an accidental fire in Rajouri district on Friday. Ram Kumar, who hails from Jodhpur, was cleaning his rifle when it went off accidentally and a bullet pierced through his shoulder, official sources said. Ram had been
hospitalised.

ANC for tripartite talks: The Jammu and Kashmir Awami National Conference (ANC) on Friday said tripartite talks among the parties concerned held the key for resolution of the Kashmir issue. The ANC is still committed to the slogan of “tripartite talks” raised by its president G.M. Shah in 1989 to resolve the issue, senior party leader and chairman of the Intra-Kashmir Peace Conference Muzaffar Shah said at a public meeting in Budgam district.

Nursing programme: To sharpen the managerial skills of the nursing staff, the Command Hospital, Northern Command, will organise a nursing education programme on “Trauma Care-Holistic Nursing Approach” from August 11-20 here. About 30 nursing officers from the command zone are expected to attend the programme. Col D.K. Kachari, PRO, Northern Command, said the main objective of the programme was to enhance the ability of nurses in aiding the physical and psychological recovery of patients. The session will emphasise on the physical, emotional and psychological management of patients.
