It’s worth the risk, says Rahul

Hailing Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's "vision, tenacity and leadership" over the Indo-US nuclear deal, Rahul Gandhi today said that the accord was worth the risk and “if the government falls in the process so be it”. Coming out fully in support of the deal he, however, expressed confidence that the government would secure the vote of confidence in the Lok Sabha.

No MP has deserted party on N-issue: Mulayam
Lucknow, July 16
Asserting that its flock of MPs was intact, the Samajwadi Party today said not a single MP had deserted the party on the issue of SP’s support to the UPA government on the India-US nuclear deal. Those airing their views against the party had already left it some three months ago, SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav told mediapersons here.

Suspense over the position of Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee continued today even as the Manmohan Singh government was gearing up for the crucial trust vote in the lower House on July 21-22. The Speaker is upset that the CPM included his name in the list of its Lok Sabha members submitted to President Praibha Patil for withdrawing support to the UPA government.

2 ultras, cop killed in encounter

Two militants of the Harkat-ul-Mujahideen (HuM) and a cop were killed and 10 security personnel, including an Army officer and a CRPF’s deputy commandant, injured in an encounter at Warpora village in Sopore today.
