Maoist ministers resign en masse
Bishnu Buddhathoki writes from Kathmandu

The CPN-Maoist has come up with yet another “pressure tactic” as all its ministers announced their resignation from the current coalition government.

According to Maoist leader and minister for information and communication Krishna Bahadur Mahara, who also leads the Maoist team in the coalition government, all Maoist ministers — five cabinet and two state — have submitted their resignation to party chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, alias Prachanda, on Thursday afternoon.

“Party chairman Prachanda will forward our resignations to Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala,” Mahara said.

The seven ministers who resigned are K.B. Mahara (information and communications), Hisila Yama (physical planning and works), Pampa Bhusal (women, children and social welfare), Dev Gurung (local development), Matrika Prasad Yadav (forest), Padam Rai, (minister of state for physical planning and works) and Nabin B.K. (minister of state for local development).

However, Dr Baburam Bhattarai, Maoist second-in-command, refuted such claims saying that Prachanda has not received their resignation letters yet.
