Mother asks govt to restrain Balaji Telefilms

New Delhi, June 9
The Arushi Talwar household today swore it would not let anyone cash in on their daughter’s murder. Soon after Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms announced its eagerness to televise the gory case, Arushi’s mother Nupur Talwar today moved the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), seeking immediate government intervention in the matter.

In her application to the commission this afternoon, Nupur Talwar pleaded with the government to stop Balaji Telefilms from airing anything pertaining to Arushi’s murder, as the case was still under investigation. Balaji Telefilms earlier expressed their keenness to air the murder case as part of their ongoing magnum opus “Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki…” The Talwar family, however, argues that such dramatisation was not just insensitive but detrimental to the investigations in the case.

The commission wasted no time in taking cognisance of the matter and referring Nupur Talwar’s request to information and broadcasting secretary Asha Swarup. The I&B ministry is likely to take a view on the matter, which prima facie interferes with the progress in Noida double murder case, currently being investigated by the CBI.

Nupur Talwar today personally called on NCPCR member Sandhya Bajaj to voice her anguish over Balaji’s announcement.

Nupur Talwar is learnt to have told the commission that nothing should be aired on Arushi case till the time the CBI files a chargseheet.

While marking Nupur Talwar’s application to secretary, I&B, the NCPCR has also asked the Talwars to submit footage of the aforesaid announcement made by Balaji Telefilms. The entertainment house’s announcement was aired by some television channels, which hints at Balaji’s urge to give honour killing slant to the Arushi murder story.

Will speak to Dasmunshi: Renuka

When contacted by The Tribune, women and child development minister Renuka Choudhury said she would personally take up the grievance of Nupur Tawlar with minister of information and broadcasting Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi. “The law is clear on this issue. You can’t reveal the identity of the juvenile in cases of criminal investigation, let alone making a serial on his/her murder. We will take this very seriously,” she said, supporting the stand of Arushi’s family, which wants the government to restrain Balaji Telefilms from making a serial on their daughter’s murder.
