Panchkula, June 9
A woman, who was allegedly raped by police personnel at Rohtak, committed suicide at the police headquarters here today.

The deceased identified as Sarita (25), a resident of Saini Anandpura locality of Rohtak, along with her two children reached the office of additional director-general of police (law and order) V.B. Singh after consuming some poisonous substance and handed over the suicide note to him.

Sarita in her suicide note said she was committing suicide as no action was taken against the accused.

The police was trying to protect the accused and her family was being threatened with dire consequences, alleged Sarita in the suicide note.

Meanwhile, an inquiry had been marked into the case and the accused cops had been suspended, said the ADGP. It would also be seen that why the action in the case was delayed and the guilty would be punished, he added.

Sarita was allegedly raped by head constable Balraj and constable Silak Ram on April 10 at the CIA police station in Rohtak.

The CIA staff had picked up her husband Subhash in a theft case on April 9. On April 24, Subhash was released on bail after which Sarita lodged a complaint with the police on April 26 alleging that she was raped by the two cops on April 10 after calling her at the police station on the pretext of signing papers for Subhash’s release.

Sarita even appeared in the ‘open darbar’ of director-general of police Ranjiv Dalal last Thursday in Panchkula complaining against the Rohtak police for hushing up the case.

The complaint of Sarita was sent to Rohtak IGP after which a case was registered against the accused, said the ADGP.

However, Sarita today alleged that no arrest was made in the case while she and her husband were being threatened by the accused, he added.
