Mush should be tried for treason: Sharif
Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has said President Pervez Musharraf should be tried for treason cases for his November 3 action, Kargil operation and the Lal Masjid carnage. Talking to the media at Lahore Airport before leaving for London, Sharif said the interview of Lt Gen Gulzar Kayani, a former corps commander of Rawapindi and Musharraf's buddy, aired on Geo News last night has corroborated his stand that he was not informed about Kargil Operation.

Excise duty on petrol to be slashed
New Delhi, June 3
After hectic negotiations and deliberations, finance minister P Chidambaram has agreed to cut duties on oil and petroleum products. He had earlier refused to give any duty cuts to bail out oil companies as he did not want to forego hefty revenue in the coming year from this industry.

Assam minister held for bribery
Guwahati, June 3
Assam education minister and a spokesman for the state government Ripun Bora was today arrested by sleuths of the Central Bureau Investigation (CBI) at Anandlok area in New Delhi on the charge of trying to bribe the CBI investigating officer with Rs 10 lakh. Official sources here informed that the CBI directorate had already informed the Assam Chief Minister’s office here about the arrest of the senior Cabinet minister for trying to bribe the CBI officer on duty.

Fire in Kolkata market

A devastating fire broke out today at Mehta building in the Burrabazar area, which destroyed a large portion of the complex. The fire, which started at around 11 am, lasted for over four hours and altogether 15 fire tenders engaged in the firefighting operation, finally brought the fire under control after 3 pm.

Rs 250 rise in paddy MSP on the cards

It is election year. And after the multi-crore loan waiver bonanza for farmers, the government is all set to increase the minimum support price of paddy from Rs 750 to Rs 1,000 per quintal.
