Mumbai, May 30
Police personnel have been deployed at several petrol pumps across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane after petrol pumps in the area ran out of stocks. With petrol pumps putting up no supply boards for the past three days, tempers have been running high and motorists are getting into scuffles with employees of these pumps.

Members of the Mumbai Petrol Pump Owners’ Association met senior police officials and demanded security after stray incidents of violence today. The police said complaints are coming in from petrol pumps located along highways and the main arterial roads of the three cities.

“While there is no shortage of diesel or CNG, we are running out of petrol,” said Vasant Shinde, who runs an Indian Oil petrol pump at Borivli in North Mumbai.

According to dealers, oil companies like Hindustan Petroleum, which supply Mumbai and other cities in Maharashtra, have sharply reduced the quantity of petrol delivered to pumps.

“Petrol supply has been hit because of maintenance work at one of our plants,” an HPCL official said. He blamed motorists of panicking and buying petrol in large quantities.
