Activists of a radical Sikh organisation today injured a former woman SGPC member, her husband and two daughters in Baba Jeevan Singh serai, near SGPC complex, here today.

Prescribed form not must for RTI applications
Chandigarh, May 25
The State Information Commission (SIC), Punjab, has held that public authorities cannot reject RTI applications on the ground that the information request was not in the form prescribed by the State  Government.

Mann backs Gujjars
Chandigarh, May 25.
Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) has condemned firing on Gujjars in Rajasthan resulting in several deaths. Coming down on government action Mann said the Gujjars were only demanding a “small slice of the cake” being offered to many others in the country. “They only want a Scheduled Tribe status. You cannot shoot them for demanding something like this”. Mann said the government must stop atrocities on the Gujjars and ensure no precious life was wasted.

Staff despatched sans ballot papers, says Congress

The Congress today alleged the SAD- BJP government’s insistence to get all ballot papers printed from a single agency in Delhi had resulted in undue delay with ballot boxes not reaching many places in Punjab today.

Sources said after studying several options on the acquiring of land for private and government projects, the government had shortlisted three policies draft of which would go to the Cabinet for a decision which one of the three was suitable for the state.

Having failed to marry a young boy and a girl reportedly committed suicide by taking some poisonous substance in Pathralian village, 25 km from here, last night.

Boy drowns in pool
Sangrur, May 25
Akashdeep Singh (7), son of safai sewak in the Police Lines here Mann Singh, was today found dead from the swimming pool of the Police Lines here. Sangrur SSP Gurdip Singh Pannu said this evening the pool was locked from outside when the boy drowned and died. He said the boy today entered the pool by scaling the wall of it. The mishap came to notice this evening when some swimmers went to the pool, he added. — TNS

Class XII exams: Nabha students excel
Nabha ,May 25
Students of class XII of Punjab Public School Nabha excelled like of class X. In Science stream all 25 students made the grade of which 15 got distinction, while nine got first division. Anuj Sood and Manpreet Singh Grewal stood first by securing 85.8 per cent marks. In commerce stream 38 students made the grade out of 39 appeared. Namrata Majhail stood first by getting 87 per cent marks while Prabhjeet with 86.8 per cent and Rajvir Singh Dhillon with 85.8 per cent secured second and third positions respectively. — OC

Defining PUSA 1121 as Basmati Variety
Exporters back farmers
Amritsar, May 25
The All-India Rice Exporters Association has backed the farmers of northern India for officially defining PUSA 1121 as basmati rice. In a missive to the government, president of the association Vijay Setia said the 1121 variety had been accepted world over as the best cooking rice and have managed to establish its foothold in markets across the globe, especially in Iran, West Asia.
