400 units to get Rs 20 cr subsidy today
Ludhiana, May 24
Over 400 urban industrial units will get pending capital subsidy to the tune of around Rs 20 crore tomorrow. Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal will hand over the cheques to industrialists at a function here that would be presided over by industries and commerce minister Manoranjan Kalia.

Two customs officers arrested

A vigilance team led by the DSP, Gurcharan Singh, arrested two customs and excise officers for allegedly permitting trolleys loaded with iron scrap to pass after allegedly receiving a bribe of Rs 30,000 at Dhandari Kalan this afternoon.

The Ludhiana warehouse of the Steel Authority of India (SAIL) has been adjudged the best-managed warehouse for the year 2006-07. A function was organised to award the Ludhiana team. The function was attended by industrialists, customers and employees of SAIL and PSIEC.

NSS camp concludes

The 10-day NSS camp, which was under way at the Government College for Women, concluded here today. More than 150 students participated in the camp. The students presented skits and group songs. Sukhwinder Kaur was declared best worker, Puneet Soni best speaker, Shifali most disciplined student and Jaswinder outstanding volunteer.

A poetry recitation competition for primary classes was organised at Guru Gobind Singh Public School, Daad, Pakhowal Road. Inderjeet Kaur, Taranjeet Kaur and Shalini Sidhu were the judges. As many as 43 students participated in the competition.

Ludhiana, May 24
To encourage the visually impaired chess players, who have performed well in various tournaments and brought laurels to the state, a body named Punjab Chess Federation for the Blind has been formed.
