Gurgaon, April 19
Unidentified assailants today shot dead state secretary of the Haryana Janhit Congress (HJC) Vikram Pehalwan (40) at his native village Wazirabad in Sector 56 here. Another person was injured in the incident.
DCP Satish S. Balan, who reached the spot, said preliminary investigation showed that Pehalwan was sitting in his timber shop along with his salesman Santosh and a servant around 12.45 pm. Two youths entered the shop and made some enquiries
regarding the purchase of wood.
Pehalwan sent out his servant to bring juice for the buyers when the youths allegedly fired in his head and chest from a point-blank range killing him on the spot. The assailants also shot him in the ribcage.
Balan said the number of the assailants was believed to be five. They had come in a car which was parked at some distance from the spot. Two of them were said to be sitting inside it while another kept a watch at the entrance to the shop. The motive behind the murder is yet to be ascertained.
The police has registered a case against the unidentified accused.
A large number of political leaders, cutting across party lines, including Independent legislator from Sohna Sukhbir Singh Jounapuria, former BJP MP Sudha Yadav and former Haryana minister and HJC leader Rao Narbir Singh also reached the spot.
The victim was a former wrestler and a popular political leader of the area. He left the Congress when former Chief Minister Bhajan Lal and his son Kuldeep Bishnoi floated the Haryana Janhit Congress. He was looking after the publicity cell of his party in the state.
