A motor cycle theft accused allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself with his shirt from iron bars of a ventilator in a cell of the Focal Point police station in wee hours today. A stunned city police administration swiftly suspended two Punjab Police cops.

150 school buses go off roads
Ludhiana, April 17
The school van operators’ association, BRS Nagar, yesterday withdrew more than 150 vans and buses from the city roads. Thus, students of Sacred Heart Convent School, Sarabha Nagar, and Sacred Heart High School, BRS Nagar, will not be able to avail these facilities from tomorrow onward. This decision was taken after the association met at its BRS Nagar office here today.

A servant and his three accomplices, all of Nepalese origin, drugged and looted a textile manufacturer's family of cash, jewellery and valuables over Rs 10 lakh at Col Gurdial Singh road at about midnight last. The four, however, could not run far away as alert cops nabbed them within three hours.

Move on packaged food draws flak

Many of the category I railway stations in the Ferozepur division, including Ludhiana, appear all set to say good-bye to the age-old practice of providing freshly cooked food and snacks to passengers on railway platforms, and instead the travelling public will have to buy packaged food which the Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) believes to be more nutritious and hygienic.
