This amount is likely to be disbursed as pension to the retirees of PAU, who have not been paid their pension for the past five months.

To check the activities of mobile phone lifters, the city police has warned all the mobile sale-purchase outlets to maintain records of persons selling second-hand phones or face action.

Headless body of woman found
Samrala, March 19
The district police recovered a headless body of a woman from one of the fields in Neelo Kurd village. The body was first spotted by some of the passersby who immediately reported the matter to the police. A team of police officials from Samrala police station reached the spot to take stock of the situation.

In yet another incident, exposing the crime-prone night life in the city, two unidentified motorcycle- borne youths beat up and looted Rs 50,000 in cash besides jewellery and mobile phones from two auto parts traders near Taksonz Palace, Dugri road, at about 3:30 am today.

It was a historical moment as the Jagriti Yatra of Guru Granth Sahib (Gurta Gaddi) went around local town and various villages of Ludhiana and Sangrur districts. Thousands of devotees paid obeisance to the holy Guru Granth Sahib brought from Hazoor Sahib in Nanded, Maharashtra, and the weapons of Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh Guru.

An 83-year-old man is fighting since the last three decades to get pension as per his grade but thanks to red tapism, he is getting pension as per the old grade.

50 employees found absent from duty

As many as 50 employees from all the four zonal offices of the municipal corporation were found absent from duty when their respective in charges inspected their offices in this morning. Mystery shrouds the murder of Ashwani Kumar (40), son of a SAD leader of Rahimabad village, whose body was found lying in the fields on the outskirts of the village last evening. The victim had disappeared under mysterious circumstances after receiving a telephone call on Monday evening.

The second budget announced by the Akali-BJP government for the year 2008-2009 has failed to satisfy agriculturists. Experts feel that very less share was provided to the agrarian sector and there was no scope for further development and research with such a "meagre" amount.

10,000 students take part in workshop

Quest Infosys, regional centre of Punjab Technical University (PTU), Jalandhar, organised a workshop on “PTU-DEP- The future roadmap” under distance learning programme here today. Dr R.P.
