CM convoy throws traffic out of gear
Tribune News Service

Jalandhar, August 29
It was yet another day of traffic chaos for the city residents as Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal toured across the city to Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium for the inauguration of the Punjab Hockey League.

The residents had felt similar inconvenience yesterday too when Shiromani Akali Dal working president Sukhbir Singh Badal went about meeting people, attending a function and holding a press conference in the city.

Today’s worst scene was around the busy Ambedkar Chowk where traffic was closed from all sides to clear way for the Chief Minister’s convoy that halted at Lovely Autos for a short while. While Badal went to meet the Mittals inside their office, at least a dozen cars, including those of his security and supporters, stopped right at the chowk for nearly seven minutes bringing the traffic to a complete standstill on all four sides.

Almost all other prominent roundabouts on the way, including Kapurthala Chowk, Football Chowk and Guru Nanak Mission Chowk, were closed from all sides as the CM’s vehicles were to pass from there. This also led to traffic snarls along other roads. The movement of traffic at BMC Chowk and the GT Road outside the bus stand was also badly hit.
