The police authorities on Sunday arrested Nurmahal SHO Shivdev Singh Kahlon after an inquiry report, submitted by SDM Pritam Singh, held him responsible for four deaths, including one in the police firing.

According to the report, the police officer had demanded bribe from Sukhdev Singh, alias Tara, who, along with his family members, committed suicide by jumping before a speeding train on June 8.

Jalandhar, July 1
With the arrest of three persons, district police on Sunday claimed to have solved blind murders of two youths of Dadulwal village, falling under Nurmahal police station here.

The bodies of Gurpreet Singh Gopi and Inderjeet Singh Manga were recovered from Chitti Bein, a rivulet, in February 2007. The accused, indentified as Amandeep Singh Amana, Kuldip Singh Rinku and Baldeesh Singh Deesha, belong to the same village.

In a release issued to the press, SSP Jalandhar, Arpit Arpit Shukla said an altercation had taken place between the victims and the three accused in the month of February. Later, they killed them with some sharp-edged weapons and dumped the bodies in Chitti Bein. The badly mutilated bodies were found in the rivulet on February 24. An FIR under sections 302 and 201 of IPC was registered.

Power bill shocks consumer
Tribune News Service

Nakodar, July 1
As if repeated outages were not enough, the Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) has now added to the woes of consumers by sending them inflated power bills.

Ashok Kumar of Nakodar was shocked to receive a bill amounting Rs 21,430 for a single phase meter, installed four months ago, at his residence in Dhiran Mohalla. Interestingly, it’s for the second time Kumar has received such a hefty bill. “The overall meter load at our house is 0.59 kilowatt. They have send us a bill of nearly Rs 22, 000 for consumption of 60 units. It’s ridiculous,” said Kimti Lal, son of Ashok Kumar, while showing the bill.
