Major diamond jewellery theft near Ansal Plaza
Ornaments worth Rs 8 lakh stolen from parked car

Ludhiana, December 29
In one of the biggest diamond jewellery thefts in the city, unidentified thieves broke open the windowpane of an Innova car and decamped with ornaments worth around Rs 8 lakh. The owner family was busy shopping in Ansal Plaza after parking the car in front of Himalaya Opticians late last night.

Servant drugs, loots family of ex-PAU Registrar

A kitchlu Nagar-based family of a former Registrar of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) paid a heavy price for ignoring repeated requests of the police to get their servants registered when a newly recruited cook decamped with cash, jewellery worth lakhs after serving them drug-laced food.

Woman killed, 3 hurt in accident
Mandi Ahmedgarh, December 29
A woman was killed and three persons injured when the car they were travelling was hit by a tempo coming from the opposite direction on the Bhutta-Lapran road near here today morning. The police has registered an FIR under Section 304-A of the IPC against the driver of the tempo.

200 firms to take part in international exhibition next month
Ludhiana, December 29
Endeavouring to develop the country as a hub of textile machinery exhibitions for South-East Asian countries, Fair Design India, an integrated service provider for trade fairs, will hold an international exhibition next month in Delhi. The exhibition, which would involve participation from over 200 domestic and international companies from 12 countries, is expecting a heavy turnout of visitors from Ludhiana.

Dr Parmar nominated to vet varsity board

Dr Onkar Singh Parmar, Director (Extension Education) and senior-most professor at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), has been nominated as a member of the board of management of the university from amongst the deans and directors.

Social projects mark 10-day NSS camp
Ludhiana, December 29
A 10-day NSS Camp has been going on in full swing on the campus of Gobindgarh Public College, Alour (Khanna). The volunteers visited Vridhashram, Khanna, yesterday. Mr Amarjit Singh Shahi, SDM (Khanna) was the chief guest at the occasion.

Hospital holds mock drill in disaster management
Ludhiana, December 29
A mock drill in disaster management was organised by the Accident and Trauma Department of SPS Apollo Hospital here last evening. Dr S.P. Singh, COO of the hospital, told mediapersons that the focus of the exercise was to track the patient movement, surge capacity (how well can the hospital handle an influx of patients), allocation of resources and coordination with various agencies in case of a disaster.

1,000 examined at dental camp
Ludhiana, December 29
More than 1,000 persons from Lalton and several nearby villages were examined at a dental check-up camp at Baba Inder Singh Memorial Dispensary in Lalton Khurd village on the Ferozepore road yesterday.

A lecture on HIV and Hepatitis B was organised for NSS volunteers of Kamla Lohtia SD College, Ludhiana, here today. Dr Rajoo S. Chhina, Medical Superintendent of Dayanand Medical College & Hospital, Ludhiana, highlighted the symptoms, modes of transmission and various other aspects of HIV /AIDS.
