Involve Kashmiris in peace process: Bhim Singh
Srinagar, December 24 Addressing a large gathering at the Lal Chowk, he urged the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, to show ‘compassion and magnanimity’ by releasing all political prisoners and withdrawing cases registered against them. Such an act, he said, would enable these people to restart their life with honour and dignity. Prof Bhim Singh, who is also a member of the State Legislative Council, urged the Prime Minister and the people of the state to take steps to create conducive atmosphere for the return of the Kashmiri Pandits to the valley. While appreciating the peace process initiated by the governments of India and Pakistan, he lamented that the people of the state were not being involved in the peace process. While talking to journalists he said, “To win the confidence of Kashmiris it is necessary that a general amnesty is given to those under detention.” The Panthers Party’s chief also urged the Centre to take steps for the safe return of Kashmiri youth who had crossed over to the other side of the LoC for arms training during the past two decades. He alleged that the people of Gilgit and Baluchistan on the other side of the LoC were being denied “civil and political rights” and lacked representation in the PoK legislature. Political representatives and intellectuals on either side of the LoC should be allowed to meet for intra-Jammu and Kashmir talks. |
