Punjab Vigilance Bureau on ‘clean chit’ spree
Chandigarh, December 14
At the fag end of the Punjab government’s tenure, giving a“clean chit” in high-profile cases has become common. The Vigilance Bureau (VB) has now found that no case is made out against either Punjab State Electricity Board officials for allegedly importing substandard coal or against those responsible for alleged irregularities in the purchase of medical equipment.

The Lok Sabha passed by voice vote today evening the Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Bill, 2006, seeking to provide 27 per cent reservation for Other Backward Classes in Central Government’s educational institutions.

9 of marriage party killed

Nine members of a marriage party, including the bride and the bridegroom, were killed and 11 others injured when their vehicle fell into a khad near Umladwar on the Narakanda-Tikker road last evening.

It is a “catch-22” situation for over 800 families, who were uprooted from a slum colony in Zirakpur and were shifted to the prohibited periphery of Ammunition Depot, Dappar, as around 20 jawans from the depot pulled down their jhuggis in Gholumajra village in the vicinity of the dump.

CITU bandh paralyses life in West Bengal

The CITU's industrial bandh virtually brought to a halt the state of West Bengal today. It was the fifth consecutive bandh in some 15 days since November 26 in the CPM-ruled state, where Mr Budhadeb Bhattacharjjee's "dreamland" of IT sector was also not spared.
