9 of marriage party killed

Shimla, December 14
Nine members of a marriage party, including the bride and the bridegroom, were killed and 11 others injured when their vehicle fell into a khad near Umladwar on the Narakanda-Tikker road last evening.

The marriage party was on its way from Nankheri to Khangta. The injured were hospitalised at Rohru, while seriously injured Renu had been referred to the Indira Gandhi Medical College Hospital here. The accident occurred when the driver lost control over the vehicle after it skidded on snow and rolled down about 800 metres into the khad.

The local villagers reached the vehicle with difficulty. Mr Amarjit Singh, local SDM, and Mr Prem Thakur, DSP, reached the spot with a rescue team.

The dead have been identified as Vijay, bridegroom, Babli, bride, Bhag Singh, driver of the vehicle, Sandeep Mehta, Meera, Kanta, Sandeera Mehta and Bobby. One victim is yet to be identified. The administration given Rs 10,000 as relief to the next of kin of the dead and Rs 1,000 to the injured.
