Continued bear hammering for the third consecutive day today caused Sensex to close below the psychological 13,000 mark. The benchmark index fell 404 points to close at 12,995.
Sensex swung between 12,801 and 13,492 during intra-day trade before falling sharply. In the broader markets, Nifty shed 3.4 per cent or 132 points to end the day at 3716.
With bears making a comeback, analysts predicted Sensex to fall another 800 or so points before stabilising.
All the BSE 30-scrips closed lower today with Grasim Industries being the biggest loser. The scrip fell 7.3 per cent or Rs 198. ACC, Reliance Communication, Gujarat Ambuja Cements, SBI, Bharti Airtel, TCS, Ranbaxy, NTPC and BHEL were also among the top losers.
All sectoral indices closed lower with the capital goods index emerging as the biggest loser shedding 3.7 per cent or 338 points.
