After much dilly-dallying, the city police has finally registered a case against the unknown driver of a car who had hit the vehicle of The Tribune sport journalist a week ago and threatened to shoot him with a pistol.

Over 4 lakh children given polio drops
Ludhiana, November 12
More than four lakh children were administered polio drops in the city and elsewhere in the district in the course of pulse polio drive today. Dr Yash Pal Singla, Civil Surgeon, giving this information, said almost 80 per cent of the 5.39 lakh children in the age group of 0-5 years were covered by way of some 2100 polio booths set up in the city and other places in the district.

Brick-kiln worker murdered
Khamano , November 12
A person working in a brick-kiln has been allegedly murdered by a youth, who was also working on the same site close to Bhari village, near here. According to information, Balvir Singh (35) , a resident of Matroda village near Bhadson, was working at the brick-kiln and a youth, Harjinder Singh Kala,(21) was also working there as tractor-trailer driver.

Government's pre-election appeasement moves might invite a lot of criticism, but even those condemning the government want to miss no chance to make the most of it. Recent case in point is industry that has been accusing the government of turning a blind eye to its problems.

CITU alleges oppression of workers in Punjab
Ludhiana, November 12
Mr M.K. Pandhe, president of the Centre for Indian Trade Unions(CITU), today alleged that the Punjab Government had let loose a reign of terror on the working class who were demanding genuine and legitimate rights. He alleged that the freedom of associations and the right of collective bargaining were being trampled in Punjab.

Veterans’ core group merger hailed
Ludhiana, November 12
The Indian Ex-services League, Punjab and Chandigarh, has welcomed the merger of the All-India Veterans’ core group with the mainstream league and the joining of Brig H.S. Ghuman and the executive body in the league.

Private banks’ staff a satisfied lot: study

Majority of employees working in private sector banks were satisfied with their jobs and found enough opportunities for growth and advancement. This was found by Tarandeep Shahpuri, an MBA student of Punjab College of Technical Education, Baddowal, in his study on 'Quality of work life in private sector banks.

Experts suggest new techniques in farming

Efforts are being made by the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) and soil conservation and agriculture departments to bring down the cost of production in agriculture, improve the yield and save the underground level of water by adopting modern techniques.

Relief to sunflower cultivation welcomed
Ludhiana, November 12
The Solvent Extractors Association of Punjab has hailed the decision of the Punjab Government to exempt sunflower seed from the levy of market fee, which, it said, would encourage the cultivation of sunflower seeds and thereby provide much-needed raw material to the vegetable oil industry in Punjab.

Computer giant IBM conducted a test for students of over 100 colleges to recruit students for jobs in the company and selected six belonging to Government College for Women after they cleared their analytical test, followed by interview.

Fancy dress contest held
Mandi Ahmedgarh, November 12
Various schools organised inter-class competitions to celebrate Children’s Day here today. Fancy dress competition was organised at Anand Isher Senior Secondary School Chhapar, near here, yesterday. Children attired in various dresses received applaud of spectators. Rishi Sharma, dressed as Mahatma Gandhi, was well appreciated.

Tiny-tots celebrate Children’s Day

Ludhiana, November 12
Tiny-tots of Golden Time Playway School participated in the Children's Day function at the school here today. They took part in dance, skit, poem recitation competitions. On this occasion, Prof Hari Singh (retd) of the GND varsity, was the chief guest. Principal Jaswinder Chadha welcomed the chief guest and parents. The chief guest encouraged kids and distributed to children.

Tiny-tots have a ball
Ludhiana, November 12
Children had a field day today as they enjoyed a host of activities as part of Children's Day, which falls on November 14, at Sutlej Club. The club was tastefully decorated with balloons and buntings to welcome the tiny-tots.

Jeet - an artist to the core

An alumni of Guru Nanak Dev Engenieering College, Ludhiana, Jeet Aulakh has done his college proud by holding his latest painting exhibition at Punjab Lalit Kala, Chandigarh, last week. A few years after getting his Bachelor’s in Engineering (Aerospace and Automotive Design) from Panjab University, Jeet migrated to Canada but was not able to take India out of his heart.

Musical night regales audience

TT titles for Kirti, Vitesh
Ludhiana, November 12
Local girl Kirti Aggarwal and Vitesh from Amritsar defeated their respective opponents to clinch titles in the sub-junior boys and girls sections, respectively, on the penultimate day of the 47th Punjab State Inter-District and Open Table Tennis Championship played at Shastri Hall of Guru Nanak Stadium here yesterday.
