New Delhi, October 18
The CBI today conducted searches at seven places against officials of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), including its General Manager (Technical) P.C. Arya, for allegedly clearing sub-standard work on the nationalhighway between Panipat and Sonepat and causing a loss to the exchequer.
CBI sources said the searches were carried out in the national capital, Chandigarh, Lucknow and places in Haryana after a case was registered in the designated court here against General Manager (Technical) P. C. Arya, Project Director Nissar Ahmed, Manager (Technical) R. S. Garg and some other officials for alleged cheating and abuse of official position.
According to the FIR, all officials named in it had allegedly entered into a criminal conspiracy with a construction firm owned by Mr Ashok Garg and issued payments to the tune of Rs 6.25 crore without the proper execution of work on a 30-km stretch of the highway from Panipat to Sonepat.
