up momentum

In the wake of a date already fixed for the execution of Parliament attack case convict Mohd Afzal Guru, several political leaders and NGOs have launched a campaign with appeals to the President and the government for converting capital punishment into life sentence amidst a renewed debate on the abolition of the death penalty altogether.

Four Hizbul Mujahideen militants and a policeman were killed in separate incidents, while a senior Congress leader escaped a militant attack in Jammu and Kashmir today.

Seven more die of dengue
New Delhi, October 15
The nationwide dengue toll has risen to 101. While three dengue deaths have been reported by the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences, two by Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital and one by Holy Family Hospital here in the past 24 hours, one has been reported in Uttar Pradesh.
