Mumbai, September 22
Dawood Mohammad Phanse, alias Dawood Taklya, Dawood Ibrahim’s landing agent, was today found guilty in the 1993 serial bomb blasts case.

The TADA court found him guilty of meeting Dawood Ibrahim in Dubai and taking instructions from him for landing RDX and other arms and ammunition at Raigad in Maharashtra.

Along with Phanse (82), Sharif Abdul Gafoor Parker (76), was also found guilty of similar charges.

In his confessional statement, Phanse said he was involved in the landing of smuggled silver and other goods. He also confessed to meeting Ibrahim in Dubai to make arrangements for the consignment at Raigad. Phanse added that he was given Rs 15 lakh for the purpose and he spent Rs 12 lakh on bribing customs officials.

Phanse and Parkar were smugglers who helped Dawood’s gang to smuggle gold, silver and other goods into India via the Konkan coast.

Both face punishment ranging from five years to life term. Judge P.D. Kode said he was accepting the confession of Phanse. By accepting the confession, the court has given a judicial finding on the involvement of Dawood Ibrahim in the blast, special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam said.
