BYJM activist abuses DCC chief
Ludhiana, September 22
A major clash was averted in the Kitchlu Nagar area today after District Congress Committee, Ludhiana (urban), president Jagmohan Sharma was allegedly abused, threatened and humiliated by Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) — the youth wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party — district secretary Sandeep Kapoor.

PRTC staff, unions hold rally
Ludhiana, September 22
Employees of the Punjab Roadways Transport Corporation (PRTC) held a gate rally outside the PRTC workshop in support of their demands here today. “Overtime payment has been pending since February 2005 and even as various unions have been raising the issue, nothing has been done so far,” said Mr Sukhdev Singh from the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC).

Agro-culture mela to be part of kisan melas from next year
Ludhiana, September 22
The Deputy Chief Minister , Ms Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, announced that Punjab Agricultural University and the Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Punjab, would jointly organise Agro-Culture Affairs Mela from next year along with kisan melas organised at PAU in order to properly depict the composite heritage and culture of state.

Hundreds of farmers visit PNB stall
Ludhiana, September 22
More than 800 farmers visited the stall put up by Punjab National Bank (PNB) at the Kisan Mela at Punjab Agriculture University (PAU), said Mr K.L. Miglani, deputy zonal manager, PNB, here today.

Farmers briefed on plant protection measures
Ludhiana, September 22
Thousands of farmers thronged the PAU Kisan Mela on the second day today. Scientists demonstrated how complete adoption of package of practices helps in raising healthy kharif crops. Farmers were also briefed about production and plant protection measures in respect of forthcoming rabi crops, particularly wheat.

Tiny tots of BCM Arya Model Senior Secondary School, Shastri Nagar, (kindergarten section) celebrated Grandparents’ Day today. A Punjabi folk dance, poems, bhajans and speeches marked the first part of the function.

Kuldip adjudged best kho-kho player
Doraha, September 22
The sports council of Guru Nanak National College, Doraha, organised a two-day kho-kho championship on the college grounds, which concluded on Thursday. In the first match, the BA-II A team defeated BA-III B team. In the second match, BA-I B team defeated BA-II B team.
