4 booked for
harassment: The police has registered a case under Sections 406, 498 A of the IPC on the basis of a complaint by Jaswant Kaur against her husband Pritpal Singh, father-in-law Bhajan Singh, mother-in-law Nachhar Kaur and Gurmit Singh for allegedly maltreating and torturing her for dowry.

Woman arrested: The police has arrested Kamla, a resident of Manan village and seized 13 Kg of poppy husk from her. She has been booked under Sections 15, 16 and 85 of the NDPS Act.

Conference held
: A national conference on latest trends in tele-communications was held at Rayat College of Engineering and Information Technology, Rail Mazra on Wednesday. New technology, research and innovations in the field of telecommunications were discussed at the conference.

Degrees conferred: The first batch of graduates from the S.D. Girls College were conferred degrees at the convocation function on Thursday. The Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha, vice-president, Mr Ved Prakash Mehan was the chief guest on the occasion.

Delegation meets minister: A 21 member delegation of non-affiliated schools met the education minister, Mr Partap Singh Bajwa, on Thursday and urged him to expedite the process of enlistment of the non- affiliated schools to facilitate a bill for enacting affiliation rules and norms for private schools to be brought in the next assembly session. 

Vanmahotsava: Vanmahotsava was celebrated at SRT DAV Public School, Bilga with the XEN Horticulture, Dr Jaswinder Singh Bilga, as the chief guest. Saplings of neem and peepal were planted by the staff and students in the school premises. Art and poetry recitation competitions on environment were also held.

Schemes inaugurated: MLA, Chaudhary Santokh Singh, inaugurated a water supply scheme at Bharta Kalan village and laid the foundation stones of rural water supply schemes at Bharta Khurd, Chakdana, Chak Ramu, Khurd, Phamberan, Urapur and Dodhalan villages on Thursday.

Career guidance week: School students were informed about career opportunities at a career guidance week organised by the district employment and education departments. The district employment officer, Mr Jatinder Kumar Sareen, vocational guidance officer, Mr Balbir Singh, district vocational coordinator, Mr Dinesh Kumar, and district guidance counselor, Mr Sarwan Suman, delivered lectures.

Deepika wins: Deepika, a student of Shivalik Public School, won the second position at the state level students’ science seminar organised by the State Institute of Science Education, on “ Biodiversity – prospects & concerns”, on Wednesday.

Elected: The general body meeting of the Citizens Association for Relief Education and Service (CARES) was held here on Friday under the chairmanship of Maj Gen Rajinder (retd). The following were elected the office-bearers of the association. President—Wg Cdr D.S Ahluwalia (retd); Vice-president—Capt K.L Sethi; Secretary—S.K Maggo; Joint Secretary—Jagdish Singh;and Finance Secretary — K.L Kanodia.

FATEHABAD
Food found unfit
: Samples of baked flour called ‘panjiri’ supplied as diet to the children and pregnant women in the anganwadis of the district under the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) have been found to be unfit for human consumption as per a report of the Analyst Laboratory, Chandigarh. The diet was found to be gritty, rancid and putrefied and the samples had been taken from sacks stocked up in a toilet before being supplied to the anganwaris.

Reforms sought
: The Deputy Commissioner, Mr Phateh Singh Dagar, told mediapersons on Thursday that the district administration had decided to involve panchayat members, retired teachers and social activists in propagating reforms in government schools. As many as 100 educationists and social activists would be honoured at a function to be organised on the Teachers’ Day, he added.

Teacher found guilty
: Om Prakash, incharge of the Government High School, Jharli, has been found guilty of having confessed love for his class 10 student by writing ‘I love you’ on her notebook, in the inquiry conducted by the District Education Officer, Mr RS Dhanker, after the parents of the girl took the matter to the village panchayat.

Two die in accidents: Sahil aged three died when he was run over by a speeding jeep on Thursday. The driver of the jeep Mange Ram was caught by the villagers. In another incident, a truck ran over a youth Bijender, a resident of Gochchhi village.

Man held for molestation: Anil, an assistant in Bhandari nursing home was arrested on Thursday for allegedly molesting a young woman whose child had been admitted to the nursing home on Wednesday night. 

BDO suspended: Block Development Officer Arvind Malik has been placed under suspension following a departmental inquiry on charge of misappropriation of wheat during his earlier posting.

: The Deputy Commissioner, Mr V Umashankar, laid the foundation of a tatpar seva kendra for speedy redressal of electricity related complaint. the centre is being constructed by the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam at a cost of Rs 35 lakh.

Resident attacked
: Yashwant, a resident of Hurla village, filed a complaint with the police that he was beaten by some unidentified persons who stopped his vehicle on the Chandigarh-Manali highway and took away his gold chain, gold ring and Rs 8,000 in cash.

Reinstatement sought
: The All-India Medicine Graduates Association, Himachal Pradesh, has urged the Chief Minister, Mr Virbhadra Singh, to reinstate Dr Dinesh Sharma, Executive Officer in the Department of Ayurveda, who had been suspended due to certain family reasons.

Award for retired music teacher
: Dr Manorma Sharma, a retired music teacher of Himachal Pradesh University, has been honoured with the Rajiv Gandhi Shiromani Award. 

Vet convicted: In a case of accepting bribe by a public servant, the Special Judge under the Prevention of Corruption Act, Mr R.L. Azad, convicted a veterinary doctor, Dr Bhup Singh, and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for one year and to pay a fine of Rs 5000.
