MCM students have their way, end stir

The three-day impasse at MCM DAV College ended here today with the Principal agreeing to the demands made by the striking students. The Principal, Dr Puneet Bedi, allowed the students to bring mobile phones to the college, restricting them to use these only in “mobile zones”, which have been identified.

Councillor puts MC in RTI dock

Challenging transparency within the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation, its councillor from Ward No. 1, Mr Chandermukhi Sharma, today filed an appeal under Section 19 of the Right to Information Act challenging the information that was provided to him with regard to a garbage disposal unit being set up at Dadumajra village.

In order to prevent misuse of red light on vehicles of officials and elected representatives, the Chandigarh Administration has issued a notification listing the officers who will be qualified to do the same.

Road safety awards: police to involve citizens

Continuing with its ongoing campaign of rewarding safe drivers, the Chandigarh Traffic Police will choose safe drivers over a period of one week, every month. To bring in transparency, the traffic police will involve prominent citizens in the selection process making them act as judges to select winners.

The UT Vigilance Department today caught red-handed a senior assistant of the Municipal Corporation while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1,000 from a Mani Majra resident.

The Additional District and Sessions Judge, Mr RS Baswana, today framed charges against Devinder Singh Bhullar in the 15 year-old case of a conspiracy to kill former SSP Chandigarh, Sumedh Singh Saini, in a bomb blast targeting his police convoy in Sector 17.

The file will tabulate a record of his classroom activities, his strengths and areas where he needed extra care. The biggest highlight of the programme is to gauge the mental make-up of a child when he is young so that he and his parents can be goaded to plan their future accordingly.

The Chandigarh Football Academy team will take on the H P team in the inaugural match of 10-day fourth Administrator’s Challenge Cup All-India Football Tournament 2006 (under-17 Boys’), starting on September 1 at Football Stadium, Sector 17, here. The UT SSP today ordered the transfer of six police post in charges with immediate effect. Sources said SI Dilsher Singh Chandel had been transferred from the Sector 22 police post to the Burail police post, SI Harjit Kaur had been shifted from the Burail police post to the Traffic Police.
