In a major breakthrough, the Delhi police today claimed to have smashed an international drug racket with the arrest of four persons and seized 100 kg of ephedrine and 3 kg of hasish worth nearly $5million from their possession.
The cartel was seized from a vehicle near Dhaula Kuan.
The consignment, meant for an Ontario-based customer, was hidden in false cavities in paintings to be sent via Indira Gandhi International Airport, informed the DCP of South-West Delhi, Mr Ravindra Kumar Yadav.
“The main kingpin of this racket, Gurdish Singh Door (29), a Canada-based NRI, his right hand man Paramjeet Singh of Ludhiana, businessman Amit Aggarawal and a newspaper agent of Indore Kailash Chand Jindal have been arrested by the police in this regard. Raids were conducted in Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Indore, Bokaro and Mumbai as part of efforts to unravel the intricate network of this racket. We are still on the lookout for their other associates in Mumbai,” said the officer.
“Two luxury cars, a mini truck, two automatic pistols,11 mobile phones were also seized from their possession. A case under various Sections of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance Act has been registered at the Delhi cantonment police station. Separate cases have also been registered against them under the Arms Act,” he informed.
“During preliminary interrogation, they revealed that they had been smuggling narcotics to the US and Canada over the last two years. We have informed the Interpol and other allied agencies about the cartel and arrested persons. We are also examining some 600 kg of similar white powder recovered in follow up actions and are waiting for laboratory reports on them,” he said.
“As per officials of the Narcotics Control Bureau and the Drug Enforcement Administration of US Embassy, this is one of the largest catches ever of this latest drug. Ephedrine is mainly used for making popular party drugs in many western countries,” he added.
