Tribune News Service

Moga, August 2
Three minor girls were crushed to death under the Sutlej Express near Ajitwal railway station in Moga district as they had jumped from the running train in panic today morning.

Two of them were identified as Sukhani and Fatun (both around 12). The age of third unidentified girl was around eight years. They were residing in jhuggis adjacent to Randhawa petrol pump near Jagraon bus stand.

According to information, the girls had boarded the train at Jagraon to alight at Ajitwal railway station in the morning. But it being an express train, the Sutlej Express had no stoppage at Ajitwal on their way to Ferozepore from Ludhiana.

When the train was proceeding towards Ajitwal, the girls had already reached the door of the coach to alight there but as soon as the train crossed the Ajitwal station, the girls reportedly became panicky and started jumping from the running train, said General Railway Police (GRP) sources.

Later bodies were taken to the Moga Civil Hospital for a postmortem examination. Jagga Singh of Jagraon, who reportedly resides near the jhuggis, identified two of them.
