SC anguished over MLA’s remarks against judges
Legal Correspondent

New Delhi, July 19
The controversial Bangalore-Mysore express corridor project, which has snowballed into a major political issue in Karnataka today again landed in the Supreme Court with it expressing deep anguish over certain remarks against judiciary and apex court judges in particular by some MLAs.

The controversy even threatening the JD(S)-BJP alliance with former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda putting pressure for scrapping of the Rs 2,300 crore project, provides for building a infrastructure highway between Bangalore and Mysore for which nearly 7,000 acres had been acquired by the government. Mr Gowda has taken the stand that the land acquired was far in excess actually required for the project and one of JD(S) MLA allegedly had cast aspersion against the judges of the Supreme Court, which earlier had rejected a bunch of petitions challenging the Karnataka High Court order approving the project.

Nandi Construction Company, undertaking the project, again moved the apex court today, raising the issue of Karnataka Government trying to back out despite the fact that a penalty of Rs 5 lakh was imposed on it earlier by the court. When its counsel Dushyant Dave told a Bench, headed by Chief Justice Y.K. Sabharwal that even aspersions were cast against the apex court judges by JD (S) MLA Rajanna, the court said elected representatives should not make such “baseless” remarks against the judiciary as it would cause tremendous damage to the institution.
