Srinagar, July 19
Militants shot two police personnel and injured another in a series of
targeted attacks here today.
A militant was killed in an encounter with the security forces in
Pulwama district today while three others, including a top militant
and a child, were killed in separate incidents since yesterday.
A head constable of the Jammu and Kashmir Police was killed when
the militants fired upon him near a bus stand at Hazratbal at 11.45
am, officials said. One round was fired upon him injuring him
critically. Identified as Karamajeet Singh, the policeman was shifted
to the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, Soura, where he
was declared brought dead.
In another incident, constable Ghulam Rasool was shot by militants
at a vegetable market in Soura at about 12.20 pm. He died on the spot.
The militants fired upon constable Mohammad Ramzan from a
silencer-fitted pistol on the main road in the Lal Chowk area at 4 pm.
He has been admitted to hospital.
An unidentified militant was killed in an encounter with the
security forces at Braripora in Pulwama district this morning. Till
the last reports came in, the operation was in progress.
Suspected militants shot a person at Pattan, in Baramula district
today.
A district commander of the Lashkar-e-Toiba, Abu Usama from
Pakistan, was killed in an encounter with the security forces in the
Gusai area of Poonch district yesterday, the police said.
A six-year-old child, Asif, son of Shamas Din, a head constable,
was killed when militants opened indiscriminate fire upon their house
in Arnas in Udhampur district last night.
