Jagraon
Police meeting
: Mr Paramjit Singh Goraya, DSP, Jagraon, held a public meeting last evening here. Goraya appealed to the people to extend their cooperation to check the crime. Mr Goraya assured the gathering to check the bad elements who gather near the educational institutions and passed remarks at the time when they were on way to home. He also warned chemists to stop the sale of intoxicants to the youths.

One held with poppy husk: The police during a naka intercepted a truck and seized 90.600 kg of poppy husk. Sudhar police registered a case and arrested a person impounded the truck.

Jalandhar
Two robbers arrested
: The police on Tuesday arrested two members of a robbers’ gang. Those arrested were Kamaljit Singh, a resident of Mohalla Balmiki, and Ravinderjit Singh alias Kalu, a resident of Cheema Kala, in Nurmahal. The police has also recovered a stolen motorcycle and a gold ring.

Bar elections: Mr M.R. Bhagat and Mr S.K. Condal have been elected President and Senior Vice-President of the Jalandhar Taxation Bar, respectively, in the bar polls held here recently. The other newly-elected office-bearers of the bar include Mr Anil Verma, General Secretary, Mr S.K. Prashar, Junior Vice-President, and Mr Jatinder Malik, Organising Secretary.

Kapurthala
Two held
: The district police on Thursday claimed to have arrested two persons wanted in connection with a four-month-old robbery case in Begowal. The arrested are Sukhbir Singh alias Sonu and Balwinder Singh alias Binder, both from Deriwal village near Hoshiarpur district. They the gang were active in Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala and surrounding district.

Zila Parishad releases grant
: The Zila Parishad of Kinnaur has released Rs 60,000 each to its members for carrying out development works in their respective constituencies. Revealing this, Mr Chander Kirti, vice-chairman of the Zila Parishad, said the parishad had recently received the grant for the year 2005-2006which had been distributed among its members.
