Hisar hottest at 45.9ºC

Chandigarh, June 10
The heat wave sweeping most parts of North India today further intensified, with Hisar in Haryana turning out to be the hottest place at 45.9ºC, four degrees above the normal range, even as the Met Department here sees no immediate respite from the heat in the region.

Most other towns in Haryana were also under the grip of blistering conditions. Ambala recorded a high of 43ºC, up by two degrees from the normal while Karnal at 42.8ºC was warmer by three degrees.

Chandigarh recorded the season’s hottest day so far recording a high of 42.6ºC, the local Meteorological Department said, adding the previous highest in the city was recorded at 42ºC on May 7 last.

Punjab was also facing the onslaught of the current spell the of heat wave. Amritsar was the hottest town recording a high of 44ºC, up by three degrees. Ludhiana recorded a high of 43.8ºC, also three degrees above normal. Patiala residents too found little respite with mercury soaring to 43ºC.

Some towns of Himachal Pradesh too experienced a hot day. Sundernagar and Bhuntar recorded respective maximums of 37.6ºC and 36ºC. Shimla, which recorded a high of 28.5ºC, was five degrees warmer than its normal range.

The department has forecast not much change in the day temperatures over the next two days in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh. — PTI
