Chandigarh, May 31
Spinning one success story after another Raghu Mahajan has done it again. He has topped the IIT entrance examination, the results of which were declared today morning. Raghu is the first student to top the IIT entrance examination from the city. His achievement is also the first of its kind as he has not only topped the IIT entrance examination but has also topped the All-India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE), the results of which were declared last week.

Raghu is currently away to Mumbai to prepare for the International Physics Olympiad. Talking to TNS over the telephone an elated Raghu stated that he was very happy and would like to pursue either computer engineering from IIT, Bombay, or MSc Physics from IIT Kanpur. ‘‘I was expecting a good rank but topping the country was not on my mind.’’

In Mumbai, however, Raghu has already started making waves. ‘‘Yes the buzz is around on the campus where I am preparing for my Olympiad," he informs.

Dedicated and consistent hard work is what Raghu states helped him achieved success. ‘‘For the past two years I have had time to do nothing else but study, and I was putting in about seven to eight hours of consistent studies,’’ he informs.

Meanwhile, it was celebrations at Raghu’s home in the city. Elated with his double success his family members are eagerly waiting for his return. He is expected to be back on Friday evening.

Talking to TNS his father, Dr Sunil Mahajan, working with the Punjab State AIDS Control Society stated he was very happy. ‘‘Raghu has always been exceptionally good at his studies. Even from a young age he was very sharp. We never had to tell him to study or push him.’’ His mother Usha Mahajan, a physics lecturer in Government Senior Secondary school, Mullanpur, was, however, just waiting for her son to get back.

According to his mother, Raghu is of a very reserved nature and cricket is his weakness. ‘‘He has always been an achiever and that is the reason for his success. He would never stress himself with late night studying. He studied for about eight hours a day.’’

It may be mentioned here that Raghu has also been ranked second in the city in the Class XII CBSE (non-medical) examinations, securing 94.2 per cent. He also has the distinction of ranking first in the region and second in India by securing 96.8 per cent in the Class X ICSE boards in 2004.
