IITs to continue anti-quota agitation
New Delhi, May 31
Bringing to an end their 18-day- long hunger strike, medicos protesting against reservation have decided to comply with the Supreme Court’s directive to call off their stir.

Handwara mourns its dead
Handwara (Kupwara), May 31
When the water seeped through the base of their boat crumbling it till it sank in the middle of the lake with all those on board, it seemed to be the end of everything for Rafida Majid, a Class IX student from this township of Handwara in north Kashmir.

Office of Profit issue: NDA delegation meets EC

Buoyed by President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam’s decision to return the Bill pertaining to Office of Profit, the NDA today urged the Election Commission to process all pending cases pertaining to Office of Profit expeditiously and furnish the opinion to the President on an urgent basis.

The Punjab Council of Ministers today gave approval to refer cases of 9,000 terrorism-affected persons in the state to the Union Government so as to seek ex-gratia and rehabilitation grant for them on a par with 1984-riot victims. It involves a financial liability of Rs 405 crore.

India, Pak to free fishermen by June 30
New Delhi, May 31
India and Pakistan today made another forward movement in their bilateral relations when they agreed to release by June 30 each other’s fishermen who have completed their prison sentences and have been granted consular access and whose national status has been verified.
