MC’s shortest meeting ends amidst chaos
Opposition seeks Lucky’s resignation

Termed the shortest meeting in the 10-year history of the Municipal Corporation, the meeting of the House concluded within 10 minutes of its start today. It included a two-minute silence as a mark of respect for Pramod Mahajan.

City to have 70 jan sampark centres
Chandigarh, May 26
The Department of Information Technology has decided to instal at least 70 jan sampark centres in the city, which means all sectors and villages will be duly provided with kisoks handling queries in all walks of public life.

GMCH-32 doctors block traffic at ISBT

It was a day of intensified protest by striking doctors who devised new means of registering their opposition to quotas. Where on the one hand, PGI’s Resident Doctors Association organised a blood donation camp at Rotary and Blood Bank Society’s Resource Centre, Sector 37, on the other the junior and senior residents and students of GMCH-32 chose to block traffic for an hour at the Inter-State Bus Terminus in Sector 17.

Doctors find a novel way of protest
Chandigarh, May 26
A protest can have a thousand shades. Today's shade was red. As the striking doctors dropped their "black" mantle for the  day, it was time to see what they say with red.  By the end of the day, they had said a lot, though in a manner most unusual and novel.

ITBP absorbs 202 recruits

Jhuggi dwellers shifted
Mohali, May 26

Land in Phase VIII, Industrial Area, here has been got vacated by the Punjab Urban Planning and Development Authority. Jhuggi dwellers who had illegally encroached on land in the industrial area have been shifted to Jagatpura Colony. The drive had started on May 24. As many as 286 jhuggis existed in this area.

Man robbed by 3 posing as cops
Chandigarh, May 26
Three persons, dressed as policemen, allegedly kidnapped a Delhi-based garment supplier from the busy ISBT, Sector 17, in the wee hours of Wednesday and dropped him on the outskirts of the city after robbing him of Rs 20,000 in cash, a women’s wedding suits worth Rs 35,000 and a mobile phone.

Couple booked for cheating
Chandigarh, May 26
The local police has booked a city resident and his wife for forging documents of someone else’s property to procure a loan of Rs 15 lakh. Giving details of the case, sources in the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Chandigarh Police said, Harpreet Singh Cheema of Sector 17-based Pam Raffia Limited, and his wife Paramjit Kaur Cheema were booked on a complaint by his US-based uncle, Mr Jagdev Singh Cheema, that his nephew Harpreet was cheating his US-based acquaintance Rajnish Kumar.

1 held on charge of criminal intimidation

The local police arrested a Sector 22 resident on charges of criminal intimidation and passing obscene remarks to outrage the modesty of a woman. In another incident, the local police claimed to have worked out three cases of theft with the arrest of a resident of Raipur Khurd village, near here.

Two missing
Mohali, May 26
Two persons have been missing in the town since last night and complaints to the police in this regard have been lodged. Mr Anand Shankar, who works in the Air Force and lives in Phase X here, complained to the police that his wife, Ms Anuja Gupta, was not at home when he came back from office last evening.

Two attempt suicide

As many as two persons attempted suicide in the subdivision today. According to sources, Satya Narayan, an employee of a private company at Saidpura, attempted suicide by consuming some poisonous substance here this morning.

Conference on education concludes

The two-day national conference of education officers of the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan concluded at its regional office here today. The conference, first of its kind, proved to be a motivating exercise for the delegates attending it. Besides Mr S.K. Jain, Deputy Commissioner (Training) who interacted with the education officers yesterday, the delegates had an opportunity to share their views on significant issues with Mr Rajvir Singh, Deputy Commissioner (Personnel), Dr M.M.
