PAU scraps 4 diploma courses
Ludhiana, May 19
Punjab Agricultural University has decided to discontinue four diploma courses from academic session 2006-07. These are Diploma in Pest Management; Apiculture; Food Technology and Seed Production Technology.

The residents of Rajguru Nagar, Rajguru Nagar Extension, New Rajguru Nagar, Lal Bagh, Aman Park, Jagjit Nagar and Threeke have resented the allotment of 2,000 sq yards of prime land to the Rotary Club-North at a very low lease rate for the construction of a senior citizens home.

Anti-terrorism day observed

A district-level function was organised in Bachat Bhavan here today to observe anti-terrorism day. A retired soldier of the Army was in for a shock when he purchased four bottles of “PALS” beer from 3805 NCC Group Headquarters canteen here. Shamsher Singh, a resident of Phullanwal village in this district, found extraneous matter in three bottles.

Two held for murder of youth
Mandi Ahmedgarh, May 19
The Dehlon police has arrested two persons who had been booked under Sections 302 and 34 of the IPC for allegedly murdering a youth of Kilaraipur village on Monday. They had assaulted the youth as they suspected he had stolen money from the pockets of their clothes while they were taking bath in a canal.

20 cases settled at camp
Mandi Ahmedgarh, May 19
The Dakha police claimed to have processed 31 cases for amicable settlement at a dispute redressal camp organised at Mullanpur today. Mr Parag Jain, DIG, Ludhiana, and Mr R. K. Jaiswal supervised the progress of the camp.

Villagers acquainted with bee farming methods

A 10-day special camp is being held at Guru Nanak National College, Doraha under the guidance of programme officer Harwinder Kaur and Amarjeet Kaur. Yesterday a one-day-camp was organised at Lopon village (tehsil Samrala) to awaken villagers regarding the ill-effects of drugs and other intoxicants.

NSS volunteers visit Dugri village
Ludhiana, May 19
Under a 10-day NSS camp being organised at the SDP College for Women, Ludhiana, volunteers visited Dugri village and cleaned the parks today. They also conducted a survey of the area and took out an awareness rally about pollution of the canal water. The residents of the area appreciated the efforts of the volunteers being made under the guidance of president Balraj Bhasin, director S. Verma, Principal S. Bindal and programme officers S. Bhalla, Nivedita Arora and Sunita.
