Hyderabad, April 29
A pall of gloom descended on the Malkajgiri residence of K. Surya Narayana, who was kidnapped by the Taliban in Afghanistan, here today.
His family, which consists of his wife, three children and parents, came to know of the kidnapping through newspapers today. And they have not stopped weeping since then.
“I pray the kidnappers not to bring any harm to my husband. Have compassion on his aged parents, and his young children,” his wife appealed to the Taliban with folded hands and teary eyes.
“We have not been informed by anybody from the government about the incident. We don’t know why he was kidnapped or what the abductors’ demands are,” Surya Narayana’s father A. Chandhra Sekhar said.
However, Regional Passport Officer Bala Bhaskar later visited Surya Narayana’s residence and told them that the Indian Government, through the Ministry of External Affairs and its Embassy in Kabul, was trying to get in touch with the Taliban to secure his release.
The middle-class residence teemed with visitors, including relatives, friends, neighbours, local political leaders, mediapersons, the whole day. The incident of Maniappan R. Kutty, a Border Road Organisation jawan who was beheaded by the Taliban after abduction, seems to have shaken the family very badly.
Surya Narayana, who worked for Tata Teleservices in Hyderabad as an engineer for nearly five years, joined the Bahraini company only six months back.
