The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee today asked the oldest publisher of Amritsar — Jeewan Singh Chattar Singh & Sons — and other publishers to stop the publication Guru Granth Sahib as per the directives issued by Akal Takht eight years ago.

Delay in MSP hike costs farmers crores
Bathinda, April 22
While wheat farmers, who sold their produce to private traders, suffered losses worth crores as the announcement of bonus by the Centre saw wheat prices surging at various markets of the region today.

Farmer dies in hospital
Barnala, April 22
One farmer committed suicide in hospital today while the sister of the deceased allegedly held one of the doctors of the hospital responsible for the death. The deceased has been identified as Balbeer Dass Mahant ( 52) of Aspal Kalan village.

16 pc fall in wheat arrivals in Sangrur
Sangrur, April 21
The total arrival of wheat in district mandis was 8,98,705 MT till last evening. It was 10,76,288 MT during the corresponding period last year. There has been a 16 per cent decline in the wheat arrival so far.

Bill-collection centre to be shifted back
Fatehgarh Sahib, April 22
After appearing in a news item in The Tribune regarding the shifting of the electricity bill-collection centre from Sirhind town to the head office, Mr G.S. Gurm, SDO, PSEB, Sirhind, told The Tribune that the PSEB has decided to shift back the collection centre to the old place and it will start functioning from Monday onwards.

Rs 10 lakh given as relief

Mr Jagmohan Singh Kang, MLA, Morinda Assembly constituency and Cabinet Minister, Punjab, today presented a cheque for Rs 10 lakh to the family members of three brothers, Kulwant Singh, Balwinder Singh and Ravinder Singh, of Takipur village who were murdered about two months back.

The Deputy Commissioner Ferozepore has asked the Sub Divisional Magistrate Jaskiran Singh to inquire into the functioning of the Industrial Training Institute located on the national highway opposite Alamgarh village, 3 km from here. The SDM said that proceedings have been initiated.

HC judge inspects district courts

Mr Justice Hemant Gupta today visited the district courts to inspect the working of the judicial courts as well as to take first hand information about the problems being faced at grass root level by the litigants, advocates and judicial officers.

Husband held for murder of woman
Hoshiarpur, April 22
The police has arrested three suspects for the murder of Shabnam, who was killed on April 19. Mr Darshan Singh, sarpanch of Kot village, informed the Garhshankar police that a body was lying in the fields behind Barapur bus stand.

Amritsar, April 22
Six unidentified persons shot dead Sunil Kumar and seriously injured his brother Satish Kumar near Khu Korian, Gali Tiwarian, here today. They were goldsmiths by profession.
