Strike observed
: The Ashtam Farosh, Wasika Navis, Naqsha Navis and typists Union on Wednesday observed a strike to express resentment over the failure of the administration in nabbing those responsible for assaulting Ravi Sethi, a wasika navis-cum-coloniser and Satish Narang. They shouted slogans in the sub divisional complex and gave a call for statewide strike on Thursday.

Theft at shop
: A gift centre situated in the Harbans Nagar area was broken into and goods worth Rs 50,000 were stolen. The owner of the shop, Vicky, said he saw the locks of the shop missing in the morning.

Kapurthala
One killed
: A resident of Sangha village in Taran Taran district was killed and his friend seriously injured when their motorcycle collided with a private bus near here on Thursday. Ramesh Joshi and Rahul Kochhar were going towards Sultanpur Lodhi when their two-wheeler collided with a bus. Ramesh died on the spot and Rahul was referred to a hospital in Amritsar.

Protection unit: To provide speedy justice and create awareness about free legal aid, a Women and Child Protection Unit has been constituted in the district, Mr Sham Sunder Gupta, District and Sessions Judge, said here on Wednesday.

Prof Aulakh felicitated
: Comrade Jangir Singh Joga Charitable Society felicitated noted Punjabi playwright Prof Ajmer Singh Aulakh for his invaluable contribution in the field of literature here on Tuesday. Prof Aulakh was presented with ‘Pendu Natak da Shah Aswar’ award.

Two arrested
: The local police had arrested two persons along with some stolen goods near the JCT Mills here on Wednesday. City police station SHO Gurvinder Singh said the accused had been identified as one Sandeep Ram and one Vijay Kumar, both residents of Goraya. He said the duo had confessed to have committed a theft at an industrial unit on Sunday.

HIV/AIDS camp: The Social Care and Development Society, Sector 41, today organised a health awareness camp for the students of B.M.S. School, Kharar. The camp was organised mainly to sensitise them about HIV/AIDS. Ms Lakhvir Kaur, counsellor, HIV/AIDS programme of the society, talked about the disease in detail. Information, education and communication material was also distributed among he students.

PANCHKULA
“Chinmay-2006”: Students of 10 engineering colleges will participate in the annual function “Chinmay-2006” to be celebrated by the Swami Devi Dyal Group of Institutions, located in Golpura village near Barwala on Friday. Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda will inaugurate the function, informed Dr Y.C. Chopra, principal of the College.

KUMARHATTI
2 killed in mishap
: Two persons died when a truck (HP-11-0920) carrying them rolled into a gorge at Nalaag village, near Darlaghat on Thursday. The accident took place on the Darlaghat-Bararighat road at around 11 a.m. The two occupants of truck , Shalinder Pal and Parvati, were killed on the spot.
