Manu, 6 others get bail in Jessica case

The Delhi High Court today granted bail to Jessica Lall murder case prime accused Manu Sharma and six other co-accused, imposing stringent conditions on them with the direction that they would not go abroad without the court's express permission.

A Division Bench comprising Mr Justice Manmohan Sarin and Mr Justice J.M. Malik directed Manu Sharma to execute a bond of Rs 1 lakh with a surety of like amount with the High Court Registrar-General, while the other co-accused were directed to furnish bonds and sureties of Rs 50,000 each respectively by April 25.

The court also issued a non-bailable warrant against another co-accused Vikas Gill. The warrant was returnable by May 15 as he failed to appear before the court.

Manu and the six accused, who appeared before the High Court for the first time after it had admitted Delhi Police's appeal in the case, moved applications for bail.

Police's standing counsel Mukta Gupta told the Court that all efforts to serve notice on Vikas Gill had failed.

The Bench, meanwhile directed that the prosecution should place on record English translation of all documents in Hindi within six weeks to enable it to commence early hearing on the appeal, while posting further hearing for April 25.

Vikas Yadav, another accused presently lodged in jail in connection with another murder, was directed to furnish the bond of Rs 50,000 and surety through the Tihar Jail Superintendent.

Former cricketer Yograj Singh, Amardeep Singh Gill, Alok Khanna, Manu Sharma's uncle Shyam Sunder Sharma, his other close relatives and friends Amit Jhingan, Harvinder Chopra, and Raja Chopra were the six co-accused, who presented themselves in the Court.

Two other accused, Ravinder Krishan Sudan and Dhanraj, who did not face trial, were still absconding.
