Patkar’s condition deteriorates
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, April 15
Even as the condition of Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) leader Medha Patkar and two of her associates Jamsingh Nargave and Bhagwatiben Patidar, deteriorated further, the NBA leader today decided to continue with the fast.

“ Our lives are to be put at stake, not for any perverse cause or stubbornness but for the lives of lakhs of people which are more precious than our own lives,” Ms Patkar said in a statement issued after the crucial RCNCA meeting ended in a tie and Gujarat Chief Minster Narendra Modi issued a strong statement against the Centre and Ms Patkar.

As per NBA, the condition of Ms Patkar, who today entered the 18th day of her hunger strike, was deteriorating with her blood sugar level and blood pressure dipping. Today is the 29th day of the dharna at the road-side venue at Jantar Mantar by NBA activists, who are protesting against the decision of the Narmada Control Authority to raise the height of the Sardar Sarovar Dam.
