Amritsar, April 10
Dreams of Pakistani national Mumtaz who wanted to marry a Bihari Hindu after her “sensational release” from the high security Central jail here is likely to be shattered even as Sadhu Singh, a resident has withdrawn surety given to a court here.
She may be put in jail again where her three minor children have been detained. Nobody is coming forward to stand surety for her being her a Pakistani national.
Though the police has already suspended an ASI for not producing challan that resulted in the release of Mumtaz on bail. Mr Kaustab Sharma, SP (City) said the police was seeking legal opinion in the case since there was no precedent of a foreign national, especially a Pakistani being released on bail, creating a serious legal wrangle.
Normally, foreign nationals, especially Pakistani and Bangladeshis have to remain in Indian jails even after the completion of their sentence till their countries clear their cases. The police is baffled over the release of Mumtaz. Foreign nationals have to be deported to their countries after their release and could not be allowed to live like Mumtaz.
Mumtaz wanted to marry a Bihari Hindu Gora after conversion, which seems to be a distant dream for her. The court has given her two days to furnish a fresh surety by some Indian national. Mr Sadhu Singh, while withdrawing surety said that he did not know that Mumtaz was a Pakistan national. There was apprehension that Mumtaz could flee and put him in the dock.
However, Gora said that Sadhu Singh was pressurised by the police into withdrawing the surety for obvious reasons. He claimed that Sadhu Singh knew that Mumtaz was a Pakistani national and initially wanted to help her. He said that he was ready to look after the children of Mumtaz as his own if they were released from the jail.
