Woman abducted from court found murdered
Ghaziabad, April 7 The body of the woman had been dumped in the jungles of Hiranpur in the Garh Mukteshwar region. The police have sent the body for a post-mortem. Seema, 32, of Sathla village under the Bibi Nagar police station had gone missing at 1 pm on Wednesday from Hapur courts in a mysterious way. Her body was later recovered from the jungle in the Garh Mukteshwar police station area. When her relatives went to Hapur looking for her there they were told that the body of a woman had been found in Garh. The body was later identified as that of Seema. The police are now trying to find out when and how she was done to death. She must have accompanied people known to her, who later dumped her body after her murder, the police feel. Seema, 32-year-old daughter of Brij Kishore of Sathla, had gone to Hapur courts on Wednesday in connection with a property dispute in which her mother Saroj was a party. She was last seen there at 1 pm. When her family tried to contact her on her mobile phone, a male voice was heard saying, “at least lock the car door.” Later, her relatives came to Hapur but could not trace her. The next day, they saw Seema’s body in the Ghaziabad mortuary. There was no injury mark on her body. She had either been poisoned or killed by suffocation. But the police suspect her adversaries in the court case. Even her husband is not beyond suspicion. The police said Seema had been married to Sandeep Kansal of Shahjahanpur but after a year she had come to stay with her parents due to marital discord. Her three-year-old son is also living with her. Seema’s divorce case is pending in a court. |
Nurse raped in hospital
Greater Noida, April 7 The SO, Kasna police station, Mr Shailender Kumar Sharma, admitted that a rape had taken place but the family of the victim said they would not file a written compliant. The nurse had complained to the Chairman of the hospital. The police were informed of the incident by the hospital management. The police had interrogated the nurse, but she was not prepared to lodge a formal report with police out of fear of social stigma. When the police wanted to interrogate the lab technician at the hospital his colleagues said he had been absenting himself from hospital duty since March 30, the very next day of the incident. The Kasna SO said the girl’s parents had come to the police station but said they were not keen to register a formal report. |
3 clinics carrying out sex selection tests sealed
New Delhi, April 7 Malini Bhattacharya, member of the National Commission for Women (NCW) and the Health Ministry’s National Inspections and Monitoring Committee (NIMC) told reporters that the NIMC also seized documents and sealed the machines after the clinics at Okhla and Sangam Vihar were found violating the law. The Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act prohibits sex selection and empowers officials to suspend or cancel the registration of any hospital, clinic or laboratory where sex determination tests are done. Action was taken against Lokpriya Clinic and Shadaab Clinic in Okhla and Dr K P Singh’s clinic at Sangam Vihar on April 4 and 5, Ms Bhattacharya said. Speaking on the occasion, NCW Chairperson Girija Vyas deplored that the PCPNDT Act was not being implemented strictly in many states where the sex ratio was low. Different states should enact laws to set up their own monitoring committees of the NIMC kind, she said. |
Counselling centres for girl children in distress
New Delhi, April 7 Once the centres start running, which will most likely to be in the last week of April, distressed women will be able to reach the counsellors directly in their centres. They women could also reach the CSR’s office on 26899998 for any assistance. “We would like to tell our women friends that they need to come out of their shell and raise their voice to fight the cases of violence. From our experience, we will add that women who face the maximum torture are the ones who prefer to remain silent despite physical and mental abuse,” says Dr Ranjana Kumar, Director, Centre for Social Research. Apart from providing assistance, these centres will make communities in these areas aware of women’s rights by organizing legal literacy and awareness programmes regarding social, economic, political and human rights of women, mobilize community to stop anti-social activities like harassment of women, alcohol-related violence, dowry harassment, gambling, etc in their area. “We want to have a proactive approach in reaching out to the community, rather than waiting for the distressed women to reach us. Through these centres, we hope to develop an army of trained counselors who will regularly interact with the community, create awareness about the rights and win their trust,” adds Dr Kumari. CSR, with the help of its counselling centres, has successfully handled hundreds of cases of domestic violence, rape (minors and adults), dowry demands, and sexual harassment over the years. These centres are not only acknowledged by the beneficiaries, the victims, their family members, community elders, but also by the state and national government. |
