Mumbai, March 21
Sachin Tendulkar, struggling for runs in the Tests, was today ruled out for the entire seven-match one-day series against England due to a hitherto undisclosed shoulder injury for which he will undergo a surgery in London.
The master batsman, who has a miserable 18.66 average in Tests in the last series against Pakistan and the current one against England, will be out of cricket for eight weeks after the surgery which may put a question mark on his availability for the entire tour of West Indies beginning May 12.
Tendulkar will consult with Dr Andrew Wallace, an orthopaedic surgeon in London, to discuss the surgery for right shoulder tear and a cyst, which he has been carrying since September last, the cricket board disclosed.
In the absence of Tendulkar, the selectors today included Andhra batsman Venugopala Rao in the squad of 15 for the first three one-dayers against England beginning with one at Delhi on March 28.
Fast medium bowler Munaf Patel finds a place in the squad after his impressive debut performance in Tests. He has dislodged fellow pacer Zaheer Khan.
Squad: Rahul Dravid (captain), Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, Mohammad Kaif, Suresh Raina, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Irfan Pathan, Rudra Pratap Singh, Shantakumaran Sreesanth, Munaf Patel, Ajit Agarkar, Harbhajan Singh, Venugopala Rao and Ramesh Powar.
