‘Milkman’ Kurien quits Amul board
R.K. Misra

Anand, March 20
Dr V. Kurien, father of the milk revolution in India, resigned from the chairmanship of the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) here today. “My decision is in deference to the recent order of the Gujarat High Court on the issue of co-option of members on the management committee of the cooperative bodies in the state. I have taken the decision as a person firmly believing in rule of law and principles of cooperatives,” he announced at a Press conference.

The pain of the man identified with the brand name Amul who had been associated with the GCMMF since it’s inception in 1973 was writ large on his face. “I am anguished by a recent move of the GCMMF board against me. The members of the board have taken a decision to pass a no-confidence motion against me and have even gone to the board of nominees restraining me from carrying out my functions as chairman. Having served the cooperative dairy sector for over four decades with complete dedication and commitment, do I deserve this kind of treatment,” he questioned.
