Regiment jubilee
: 41 Armoured Regiment, an elite unit of the Armoured Corps, under the command of Col S.S. Mahal has celebrated its silver jubilee. A press note released here on Friday outlined its achievement. A number of ex-servicemen, officers and men came from far and near to participate in the historic moment.

Man commits suicide: Jaspal, a resident of east Hussainpura allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of a train near Shivala railway crossing here on Friday. He had some dispute with the owners of his shop.

Training camp: A pre-recruitment training camp for local candidates will be held at Theh Kanjala (Kapurthala) on March 7. The candidates will later appear in the right-day recruitment rally to be held at Beas from April 7.

Held with opium
: Gurmit Singh, a bus driver of Pepsu Road Transport Corporation, Barnala Depot, has been arrested for carrying opium with him while on duty. Mr G. Nageshwara Rao, SSP, Barnala, said he was nabbed. following a tip-off.

Prize distribution: R.R. Bawa, D.A.V. College for Girls, on Friday organised a prize distribution function on Friday on the college premises. Mr Vivek Partap Singh, Deputy Commissioner, Gurdaspur, was the chief guest and Mr R. N. Mittal, senior vice-president, DAV College Managing Committee, New Delhi, was the guest of honour. Principal Veena Watni read the annual report and expressed her gratitude to the guests, various institutions. Mr Vivek Partap Singh donated Rs 2 lakh for the development of the college.

Lecture
: Baring Union Christian College (BUCC), here, organised its second annual Dr Ram Singh Memorial Lecture and prize distribution function on Friday. Prof Dr Joginder Singh Rahi, alongwith Prof Dr Hepesh Shepherd and Prof M.M. Chadda, gave away the prizes to students. While delivering lecture he described Dr Ram Singh (a former Principal of BUCC) as a great liberal democrat, a man of deep faith, who played a key role in spreading higher education in North-West India.

Drive against femicide
: The DC Mr Krishan Kumar on Saturday interacted with girl students of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Industrial Training Institute. He asked them to come forward to raise their voice against the gender discrimination and female foeticide. The DC said he had made a plan to constitute anti-femicide units comprising 10 girls in each village of the district.

PHILLAUR
Three injured
: Three persons, including two brothers Gurmit Singh, Gurdial Singh and their niece Kamaljit Kaur, sustained serious injuries, when more than fifty armed assailants reportedly attacked them with sharp-edged weapons in their house at Goraya in the subdivision on Friday night. The injured were admitted to the Civil Hospital here in serious condition. A case has been registered under Sections 307, 148 and 149 of the IPC.

Driver dies in mishap
: Sita Ram, driver of a Toyota vehicle was killed and two others were injured when the vehicle reportedly rammed into a trailer on the Jhajjar-Rewari road near Gokalgarh village, near here, on Thursday. The deceased was a resident of Ludhiana district of Punjab.

Suicide
: Darshana (35) is reported to have committed suicide by taking celphos tablets in her house at Nakla village here on Saturday. According to a report, the police has sent the body for postmortem.

Adventure course
: A 13-day adventure course, the first of its kind in northern India, for 40 cadets of four Sainik schools started at Mountaineering Training Institute McLeodganj. Mr S.R.Saini Senior Mountaineering Officer, said that these cadets would be trained high altitude treking, obstacles, snow and ice craft, rock climbing, rappelling and mountain hazard activities.

Awareness camps
: The Academy for Hospitality and Aviation, Chandigarh, is holding the career awareness camps at different schools in the town and educating students on recent trends in careers and opportunities. The students from Himachal Pradesh are in great demand in the aviation and hospitality sectors, said Mr Hemant Kumar, director of the academy, here on Thursday.
