Minor gangraped; six arrested

The local police arrested six local youths under Section 376(G) of the IPC last evening allegedly for gangraping about 16-year-old Dalit girl of a nearby Khuwara village.

6 killed in Kulu road mishap
Kulu, January 21
Six persons, including three women, were killed and one seriously injured in an accident near Bhagidwar village in the Ani subdivision of this district today. According to reports received here, a Mahendra jeep (HP 01 0808) was on its way from Ani to Chawai when it rolled down to about 300 feet into a deep gorge.

Proposal for girls hostel approved
Shimla, January 21
The Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has approved the Rs 1.58 crore proposal of Himachal Pradesh University for the construction of a girls hostel.

Minor gangraped; six arrested

Nurpur, January 21
The local police arrested six local youths under Section 376(G) of the IPC last evening allegedly for gangraping about 16-year-old Dalit girl of a nearby Khuwara village. According to the DSP, Mr Vimukat Ranjan, following the complaint of the victim the police had lodged an FIR on January 14 and arrested Bir Singh, alias Biru, who had allegedly raped her after promising to marry her on January 19. The victim in her statement to the police had alleged that she was gangraped by some local youths whom she could not recognise when the crime was committed.

Following preliminary investigations made by the police, Biru named some others, including a Congress-supported former municipal commissioner. All had committed the crime in a forest in the Hatli Jawalan gram panchayat.

The police had arrested Narinder, alias Nitta, Sawan Kumar, Manjeet Kumar, Parveen, alias Kikki, and Manohar Lal, an ex-municipal commissioner of ward number 1 of the town. So far six accused had been arrested and two more suspects were still wanted in the case.

Meanwhile, the police has moved an application under Section 164 of the CrPc in the court of the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate and conducted an identification parade.

6 killed in Kulu road mishap

Kulu, January 21
Six persons, including three women, were killed and one seriously injured in an accident near Bhagidwar village in the Ani subdivision of this district today. According to reports received here, a Mahendra jeep (HP 01 0808) was on its way from Ani to Chawai when it rolled down to about 300 feet into a deep gorge. All victims died on the spot. Five of the dead were from one family.

The dead were identified as Karan Veer, alias Kanu (16), son of Roop Dass of Rishta village, Rakesh Kumar (37), son of Amar Nath of Ani, Dayawanti (40), wife of Mool Chand of Rishta village, Tara Devi (35), wife of Roop Singh of Rishta village, Rupi Devi (40), wife of Kehar Singh of Rishta village, and Kehar Singh (48), son of Shesh Ram of Rishta village. — OC

Proposal for girls hostel approved

Shimla, January 21
The Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has approved the Rs 1.58 crore proposal of Himachal Pradesh University for the construction of a girls hostel.

The ministry and the state government will provide 45 per cent each while the university will contribute the remaining 10 per cent from its own resources to implement the project. The proposed hostel will have a capacity for lodging 95 girls.
