Telgi gets 10 years in fake stamp case

Mumbai, January 17
Abdul Karim Telgi, the prime accused in the fake stamp paper scam case, has been found guilty in the first of the 40 cases filed against him. He has been sentenced to a jail term of 10 years and a fine of Rs 50,000.

Delivering the judgment, Judge U D Salvi of the special court found Telgi guilty of conspiracy, cheating and counterfeiting.

Telgi, who is lodged in the Yervada Central Jail in Pune, was cross-examined using video-conferencing technology. Prosecutors say, this was the first time a trial was conducted using this technology.
